This qualification has been designed to meet the revised food safety legislation that came into law in 2007. The ‘Level 3 Award in Practical Food Safety Supervision Catering’ reflects what the legislation is saying in relation to the responsibilities of supervisors. There is an emphasis in the qualification on identifying and preventing hazards and taking corrective action.
People doing this qualification would normally have a sound knowledge of food safety and may have undertaken the level 2 ‘Award in Food Safety in Catering’. This particular qualification is assessed in the workplace and therefore has ‘practical’ in the title.
A similar qualification called the ‘Level 3 Award in Supervision of Food Safety in Catering’ is also available. It has the same content, but it is delivered in a classroom environment and is not assessed in the workplace. This means it is usually completed much quicker –normally over a few days.
