Understanding Qualifications

Understanding qualifications can be complex and daunting, with different types offering different levels of skills and knowledge. From full-time college courses to work-based training, like apprenticeships, it can be difficult to know which ones to look for when recruiting.

To remove some of the confusion UKSP has put together a simple document, explaining the various qualifications and their equivalents for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

UKSP has also created simple diagrams to explain how qualifications can aid progression in specific industries:

Understanding Qualifications (Scotland)

UKSP has put together some simple documents which explain the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and how it can be used to aid recruitment and retention. The SCQF helps businesses understand and compare the various Scottish qualifications using two measures - the level of a qualification or learning programme and the number of credit points awarded. The level of a qualification indicates the level of difficulty and the number of credit points indicates the length of time it takes to complete.
